What I'm reading:

I'm reading The Scarlet Pimpernel with my blogger friend Bookworm 1858, in preparation for the publication of a retelling -- Across a Starswept Sea by Diana Peterfreund.  I have to say, I'm enjoying the book and my email conversations with Stephanie. For a classic, The Scarlet Pimpernel isn't that literary  -- it's a little cheesy and melodramatic at times and very readable. If you want to join us, the e-book is a free download at Project Gutenberg and it's a fast, fun read.

New Books!

Super excited about both of these:

3:59 by Gretchen McNeil -- yes, it's another parallel universe book, but I'm excited. And is that cover amazing?

Premeditated by Josin L. McQuein -- THANK YOU Delacorte for sending me this!!! I have been waiting to read it since I heard about it last year.

What's new with you? Tell me in comments and leave me a link so I can visit you back!

  2. Totally excited about both 3:59 and Premeditated as well-hope you have good things to say about them!

I did finish Pimpernel but haven't had a chance to write up my thoughts-it was a fun read although objectively I have some concerns about its quality (also chapter 26? what? that's what it's called?) Definitely not a stuffy difficult classic though!

  12. Premeditated looks really good! I'm looking forward to seeing what you think. The Scarlet Pimpernel is really easy reading. I think some people automatically think when it's a classic that it's going to be Dickens or Austen, but this one isn't as literary and descriptive (as you noted). I think it's a really fun story! I hope you end up really liking it!

  24. I'm not jealous, I'm not jealous, I'm not jealous.. /chanting

I have to bookmark Premeditated on Goodreads, though. Don't want to miss the reviews. It's one of those titles where I'm not sure if it'll be for me, but I'm pretty sure that if it IS good, it might actually blow me away. (Is there a word for books like that? I don't mean hit or miss, just.. hmm.)

    Happy Reading!
